Do I have to know a lot about computers to take a course online?

- You certainly don't have to be a computer "genius," but you do need to know the basics about your computer, how to get around on the Internet, how to create and download documents, etc.
- The following basic computer skills are recommended:
- COMPUTER SKILLS
- Navigate through files and directories
- How to save a file to a specific drive and folder
- Recognize file extensions and common file types (for example: .rtf, .doc, .jpeg)
- Create, save, edit, and rename documents
- Understand closing, minimizing, hiding and quitting a program
- Identify and use icons, windows, and menus
- Change printing options
- Use help menus to find answers to questions
- Use mouse click, double-click and right-click appropriately
- Shut down computer appropriately
- WORD PROCESSING SKILLS
- Create and save a new file; open an existing file
- Enter and edit text
- Copy and paste/move text
- Change text format and style
- Set margins, spacing and tabs
- Check spelling, grammar, word usage
- Print a document
- Save in alternate formats, for example .rtf or .txt
- INTERNET SKILLS
- Connect to an Internet service provider (ISP)
- Navigate to a specific URL
- Understand basic browser functions
- Access and use resources on the Internet and World Wide Web (www)
- Create a bookmark list
- Purge or refresh the browser cache
